The Rokesby Series in Order (Bridgerton Prequels)

The setup is deliberately small. Aubrey Hall and Crake House sit next to each other in Kent. The Bridgerton children and the Rokesby children grow up in and out of both, which means every romance in this series starts from a position of exhaustive familiarity — these people have known each other since they were six, and the discovery is never who the other person is but what they have become.

How the Rokesbys connect to Bridgerton

This is the question everyone arrives with, and the honest answer is: loosely, and on purpose. The Bridgertons here are an earlier generation of the same family, not the eight siblings from the main series. You are meeting ancestors. Quinn keeps the crossover light enough that neither series spoils the other, and the pleasure is recognition rather than plot — a surname, a house, a family temperament arriving early.

Period matters too. The Rokesbys are Georgian, not Regency: powdered hair, the American war in the background, a different England. If you came for the ballroom polish of Bridgerton, the texture here is rougher and the world is larger.

The Rokesby books in order

Four novels, and publication order is reading order:

1. Because of Miss Bridgerton (2016) — Billie Bridgerton, who runs her father's estate and climbs roofs, stuck on one of them with George Rokesby, the eldest and stuffiest brother. The book that establishes both families and the fence between them.
2. The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband (2017) — Edward Rokesby, a soldier in New York during the American Revolution, wakes with no memory and a woman claiming to be his wife. Amnesia, an ocean away from Kent, and the most unusual setting in the series.
3. The Other Miss Bridgerton (2018) — Poppy Bridgerton finds a smuggler's cave, gets abducted for her trouble, and spends the book at sea with Andrew Rokesby, who is not what his commission says he is.
4. First Comes Scandal (2020) — Georgiana Bridgerton, ruined by an abduction she did not consent to, and Nicholas Rokesby, packed off from medical school in Edinburgh to marry her out of the mess. The quietest and warmest of the four.

Each is a complete romance with its own ending. There are no cliffhangers and no ongoing mystery to track.

Can you read them out of order?

More easily than most connected series. The four romances are independent, and the couples barely overlap beyond family dinners. The one real cost of skipping around is that Because of Miss Bridgerton does the work of establishing the two households, so starting elsewhere means assembling the family map yourself from context.

If you only want one: book one for the classic childhood-enemies setup, book two if amnesia and a war setting appeal, book three for adventure at sea, book four for a marriage of convenience that treats its heroine's ruin seriously.
